Makeover underway for data.govt.nz

Data image 3

It’s possibly the worst kept secret ever but changes are in the air for data.govt.nz.

The makeover is part of the website’s transformation from a data repository to the front door for New Zealand’s data knowledge – now and in the future.

DIA and Stats NZ partner up

A collaboration between DIA and Stats NZ will see the website run by both agencies. We’re working closely together to create a website that meets (better still, exceeds) all expectations.

DIA will retain responsibility for the data catalogue (which will see some enhancements), while Stats NZ will be responsible for developing resources on data management and use.

What’s changing?

The navigation will be revamped, making it more user-centred, and structured to our three key user groups:

  • Data users – people who open, share and manage data
  • Data suppliers and stewards – agencies that manage data and supply links to their datasets via the data catalogue
  • New Zealanders – people who are curious about data and want to know what data is, how it can be used, and its possibilities.

Further down the track, there’ll be a new look, new content, and new layouts.

The goal

To build a stronger data community to do more with data. Transparency is critical around what we’re doing, and how we’re doing it, enabling us to maintain New Zealand’s trust and confidence that the right protections and safeguards are in place for their data.

Tell us what you think

Your feedback on the changes is encouraged. Tell us what you think (good or bad) and share your ideas about how we could further improve data.govt.nz on our online form: https://data.govt.nz/feedback/.
